Shawn D. Mechler CFP®, ChFC®
Director of Wealth Management and Planning
A native Texan, Shawn D. Mechler has been helping individuals and families navigate their financial lives since beginning her career in financial services in 1993. Over more than three decades, her career has grown into a passion for helping people make thoughtful, informed decisions about their money - and understand how those decisions fit into the bigger picture of the lives they want to build.
As Owner and Director of Wealth Management and Planning at Positive Planning Wealth Advisors LLC, Shawn leads the firm’s financial planning and wealth management strategies and oversees the client experience. She specializes in comprehensive financial planning for individuals and families, retirement income planning, and planning for owners of closely held businesses.
For Shawn, financial planning is about much more than investments and numbers. Clients should understand not only what they are doing, but why they are doing it. Her approach is to bring together the many pieces of a client’s financial life - including investments, retirement income, taxes, insurance, estate planning considerations, family goals and business interests - into a coordinated strategy designed around the life they want to live.
Shawn is a strong client advocate who believes in asking the next question, digging into the details and helping clients work through complicated financial decisions. When appropriate, she works collaboratively with clients’ CPAs, estate planning attorneys and other professionals so the different parts of a financial plan work together rather than in isolation.
Many of Shawn’s client relationships have lasted for years or even decades, and increasingly extend across multiple generations of the same family. She values the opportunity to understand not only a client’s finances, but also the people, priorities and promises behind them. Whether a family is preparing for retirement, navigating a major life transition, building a business, planning an estate or helping the next generation, Shawn’s goal is to help them understand their choices and move forward with a clear strategy.
Shawn earned her degree from Texas Christian University and continued her education throughout her career, becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and Chartered Financial Consultant®. She has passed the Series 6, 7, 63 and 65 securities examinations and is a Registered Representative and Investment Adviser Representative through Cetera. She is also licensed to offer insurance products.
In 2024, after more than 30 years in financial services, Shawn established Positive Planning Wealth Advisors LLC. Creating her own firm gave her the opportunity to build a practice around the things she believes matter most: putting clients first, maintaining long-term relationships, coordinating the many areas of their financial lives and continually improving the way the firm serves them.
The name Positive Planning Wealth Advisors is personal to Shawn. Growing up, she learned to look for the positive side of a situation - a mindset that has stayed with her throughout her life and career. “Positive Planning” brings together that outlook with the planning work she does every day with clients. For Shawn, being positive does not mean ignoring challenges or difficult decisions. It means facing them thoughtfully, asking the right questions, looking for opportunities and creating a plan for how to move forward.
Outside the office, Shawn enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, traveling, creating family traditions and finding just about any excuse for a good decorating project. Those who know her well also know that when it comes to holiday decorating - particularly Halloween - “a few decorations” can quickly turn into a full-scale production.
After more than 30 years in financial services, what Shawn loves most has not changed: the relationships. Being the person clients call when life changes, when a decision feels complicated or when their family needs guidance is a responsibility she values deeply. For Shawn, the most rewarding part of financial planning is helping people move from “What should we do?” to “We have a plan.”
